BENJAMIN L. VERGEL DE DIOS is a Program Officer of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Regional Bureau for Education based in Bangkok, Thailand. He joined UNESCO Bangkok in February 2005 to implement the Japanese-funded ICT in Education Policy Project, and will soon be coordinating a UNESCO capacity building activity for Philippine educational planners. Mr. Vergel de Dios’ main background is in educational planning and management, having attended the International Institute for Educational Planning in Paris, France in 2001-2002. Before joining UNESCO, Mr. Vergel de Dios served the Philippine Government for ten years (1995-2005) as Senior Economic Development Specialist at the National Economic and Development Authority where he evaluated major ODA projects in education, coordinated the formulation of the education chapter in the Medium Term Philippine Development Plan, and conducted several capacity building activities for the Department of Education, the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, and the Commission on Higher Education.
